I was immediately thrown off and was irritated that the author would write such a blatant lie for the sake of a rhyme. My one and only complaint- and it was a big one for me- is that at one point the author claims that eggs come from a chicken's "butt". Or even for non-vegan parents to show their children that there are other viewpoints to consider and be aware of. (I'm sure my parents are happy that this book was NOT around when I was a child.) This book might be a good way for vegan parents to outline the details of their lifestyle to their children. I thought that this book was delightful! In fact, I wish that I had stumbled across this book as a child so that I would have started asking my parents difficult questions about animal welfare issues and nutrition earlier on. Some books about veganism are overwhelming and intimidating - not this one!īeautiful artwork and beautiful message! Good work, Ruby Roth! Vegans everywhere thank you! This is wonderful for parents who are raising their children to be vegan as it will be very relatable for them. I thought Ruby did a great job with the message of this book and not only does it introduce vegan values, it teaches the alphabet in a cute and fun way! Society gets too wrapped up in patterns and schemes sometimes and when that happens importance is based on repetition rather than free formed inspiration. I actually thought it made it all the more interesting to read. Some reviewers were concerned about the lack of a consistent rhyme scheme - which is true, the rhymes are sort of all over the place, but I didn't feel that it detracted value from the book. My son isn't even two yet and he loves this book and gets excited when we read it to him. This is my favorite book by Ruby Roth so far.
